Jenny's Office Hours, Friday

Jenny had coffee, a strange, handwritten dictionary, and her laptop and translation program.

"Yeah, that was kind of a mess," said Jenny, leaning back and picking up her mug. "I was wondering if you were gonna show."

Elizabeth bit back a harsh laugh. "Yeah, just a bit," she said. "I wanted to apologize. I was rude to you and you certainly didn't deserve to have me behave like that to you."

"Thanks for that," said Jenny, nodding slowly as she wrapped her hands around the mug. "First off, you want some coffee? And second, nope, I didn't deserve that. Then again, your girlfriend? Totally went for the gold in Olympic rudeness."

"Coffee would be nice, thank you," said Elizabeth quietly. She flushed deeply. "I know. I can't apologize for her, and I don't know why she felt she had to be so rude. She's really -- I know you think she's cranky -- but she's really not like that normally."

"The way she was talking, it wasn't tough to figure out she's the same age as you," said Jenny, pouring out a mug of coffee and handing it to Elizabeth.

"Actually she's five years older than me," said Elizabeth flippantly, briefly smiling her thanks as she took it with her good hand.

Jenny blinked. "Right," she said. "She looks a few years younger too. No wonder she's so grouchy. Also, I kind of get the idea that Daniel's--um, can we just say not always the most sensible of menfolk?"

"He's an idiot," said Elizabeth, sipping at her coffee. "Sorry. I realize you're friends with him."

"He's a guy. Pretty much included in the definition sometimes," said Jenny. She waved one hand vaguely at Elizabeth. "So you and he aren't...?"

Elizabeth's eyes widened. "Good God, no," she blurted. "I can barely put him with him as it is."

Jenny laughed, holding her coffee out so she didn't spill on her skirt. "So it's you and Janet, and Janet and Daniel?" she asked. "Gotta be hard."

Elizabeth half shrugged and sipped on her coffee. "We manage it," she said.

"I figured you did," said Jenny. "Cream and sugar in the mini-fridge." She gestured behind her. "You okay? You're not looking so hot."

"Black's fine," said Elizabeth. She merely lifted her bound wrist, a rueful smile on her face.

"Ouch." Jenny winced. "How'd you manage that one?"

"Hit the desk," muttered Elizabeth sheepishly.

"Hard too," said Jenny. "So aside from the whole ouch issue, how're you doing?"

"Better than I have been the rest of the week," said Elizabeth.

"Good," said Jenny. "You know, if there's anything I can do? Lemme know."

Elizabeth nodded, and smiled slightly. "Thanks," she said quietly, sipping her coffee again. Her eyes moved to Jenny's desk and widened slightly when she saw a familiar looking pile of papers.

Jenny followed Liz's gaze. "D'you know, I started learning Latin as a kid, and I've never seen a dialect like this?" She grinned. "Also, you've got some very interesting notes on it."

Elizabeth flushed bright red. "I, um, ah. Yeah," she said helplessly.

Jenny wrinkled her nose. "You embarrass way too easily," she said. "Did you and Janet have fun in the bathtub?"

"Blame the Catholic upbringing," muttered Elizabeth, blushing even further. "I'd forgotten I'd written that."

Jenny chuckled. "So, I've been having fun with your dictionary over the past week."
